Beware of copycat or third party companies when applying for a CSCS card.
Construction workers are being charged excessive sums by unaffiliated third-party websites for their Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) cards when they could pay just £36 via the official application service.
One Suffolk resident was duped into paying £65 on a website when applying for his CSCS card. He then received a phone call requesting a further £180. When this was queried, and the resident advised there was no mention on the website of a further fee, the company stated that they would need to pay £24 to process a refund.
These companies are unaffiliated to CSCS and simply use the official CSCS application service on their client’s behalf, while charging an admin fee.
While many third-party sites provide the services advertised and are entirely legal, some charge significantly more than the official application fee.
There is only one official service: cscs.uk.com/apply. A card costs £36 and in most cases, applications will be processed, and cards issued within 48 hours.
If you are charged more than £36 for a card or £22.50 for the separate CITB Health, safety & environment test you should ask why.
We have received a report of a man going door to door in Coddenham offering "cheap trees".
These individuals often visit Suffolk and use the same sales patter - “last one”, “great price” "ex-exhibition stock" etc.
Our advice is to NEVER buy at the door!
If you are approached at the door and are not expecting a caller, our advice is not to answer.
If approached report to us via 0808 223 1133. When reporting doorstep incidents, please try to supply key information such as the description of the individual and their vehicle, including the make, model and vehicle registration if seen.
