On Wednesday 7 September SCC Cllr Matthew Hicks presented certificates and medals to 40 children who completed the Summer Reading Challenge, Gadgeteeers. Bruce Leeke (Suffolk Libraries CEO) also dropped in to say hello, and you can see a photograph of all the children on our Facebook page (@DebenhamLibraryFriends).
On Sunday 11 September, Debenham resident Simon Pyett took part in the London to Brighton cycle ride to raise money for Suffolk Libraries. He writes: “All went very well on the cycle ride. It was a foggy journey down to London and a bit of an Autumnal start to the ride, but it cleared out lovely and was a perfect day for cycling through some lovely countryside on the way to Brighton. Ditchling Beacon was a bit of a test for the legs but I managed it without getting off the bike so was pleased with that and the views from the top were lovely. There followed a lovely downhill ride into Brighton itself and a seafront finish. I completed the 55 miles in a little over 4 hours and that included a stop about 2/3rds of the way through. I think I finished 457 out of 4500. Not bad for a first long distance ride! Thank you to all who sponsored me and expressed their good wishes. All told I have raised £695.23 for Suffolk Libraries, but if anyone still wants to donate and get things over £700 then my Justgiving page is still open…” (www.justgiving.com/fundraising/simon-pyett-london-to-brighton).
